Biking

Estes Park, Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park are a hub for road biking and mountain biking. Road biking in the Park can be challenging as the elevation change leads to steep climbs. The reward is breathtaking, however, as you are surrounded by mountain peaks and spectacular scenery throughout the Park. Be sure to check the open routes in the park as bicycles are prohibited off established roads in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Mountain bikers will find a treasure trove of trails in neigboring National Forest lands. Roosevelt, Arapaho and Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests offer hundreds of off-road trails for backcountry riding.

Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

Rocky Mountain National Park is home to spectacular cross country ski trails. Try the Sprague Lake and Bear Lake areas in the Park. These trails offer peace and quiet and are accessible to all levels of skier. Shops in town offer lessons, guided tours and rental skis. The Sprague Lake and Bear Lake areas are also excellent areas to enjoy a nice day on snowshoes. Regardless of your pleasure, winter offers a great opportunity to enjoy the splendor of the area.

Wildflowers and Wildlife Viewing

People from around the globe come to this part of Colorado to enjoy a unique opporunity to commune with nature. Along hikes or scenic drives visitors can expect to encounter wildlife throughout Rocky Mountain National Park and even in the town of Estes Park. In the early summer months, wildflowers come alive and transform the landscape into a colorful canvas. Be sure to set aside some time to take it all in.
